Description
Doxycycline belongs to the tetracycline group and acts bacteriostatically against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including Bordetella, Campylobacter, E. coli, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus species. It is also effective against Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, and Rickettsia species. Doxycycline works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and has a strong affinity for lung tissue, making it highly effective for respiratory infections.
Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic with bacteriostatic activity against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including Campylobacter, Pasteurella, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Treponema species, and Mycoplasma.
Indications
MACRODOX is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal and respiratory infections caused by tylosin and doxycycline sensitive micro-organisms including Bordetella, Campylobacter, Chlamydia, E. coli, Haemophilus, Mycoplasma, Pasteurella, Rickettsia, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and Treponema species in calves, goats, poultry, and sheep.
Contra indications
Do not use in animals hypersensitive to tetracyclines or tylosin.
Avoid administration to animals with seriously impaired hepatic function.
Do not administer concurrently with penicillins, cephalosporins, quinolones, or cycloserine.
Not recommended for animals with active microbial digestion.
Side effects
Discoloration of teeth may occur in young animals.
Hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
Diarrhoea may occasionally develop during treatment.
Dosage
For oral administration.
Calves, sheep and goats
Twice daily, 5 g per 100 kg body weight for 3ā5 days.
Poultry
1 g per 2ā4 litres of drinking water for 3ā5 days.
Withdrawal times
For meat:
Calves, goats, and sheep: 14 days
Swine: 8 days
Poultry: 7 days
