Description

Colistin Sulphate is a polypeptide antibiotic belonging to the polymyxin class of antimicrobials. It exhibits potent bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-negative bacteria by disrupting the integrity of the bacterial cell membrane.

The antibiotic interacts with phospholipids and lipopolysaccharides within the bacterial outer membrane, causing leakage of cellular contents and rapid bacterial death.

Colistin is particularly effective against Gram-negative pathogens such as E. coli, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, and other susceptible microorganisms. Due to its limited absorption from the gastrointestinal tract following oral administration, it provides high concentrations within the intestinal lumen, making it especially useful for managing enteric bacterial infections.

Indications

COLIS 500 is indicated for the treatment and control of bacterial infections caused by Colistin-sensitive Gram-negative organisms, including:

Colibacillosis (E. coli infections)
Salmonellosis
Enteric bacterial infections
Gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative bacteria
Mixed infections involving Colistin-sensitive pathogens

Suitable for poultry and livestock under veterinary supervision.

Contra indications

Do not use in animals known to be hypersensitive to Colistin or polymyxin antibiotics.

Dosage

Orally via drinking water or with milk replacer

Calves, sheep and goats

0.2 gm per 10 kg body weight in water / milk replacer for 3-5 days.

Poultry / Pet birds

1 gm in  10 liters of drinking water for 3~5 days.
